«Jonathan Livingston Seagull»

News

The second new “Youth on a deserted island” production is nearing the end of its rehearsal period, and will shortly be ready to unveil to pupils at Cyprus’s schools. This Classroom Play production, directed by Stelios Andronikos, is inspired by Richard Bach’s sensitive and poetic novella, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, bringing to the stage its message on love, forgiveness, exploration, faith in dreams, the goodness hidden in every human heart, and much more besides.

The Classroom Play offers flexible productions that can be staged in school halls and theatres, introducing children to the educational and artistic experience of a play without them having to leave the school itself. Regular performances have also been planned for the general public.

The director, cast and crew have worked together to bring out the many-layered meanings of Bach’s unique vision, encouraging young audiences to discover their own capabilities and potential.

The plot

Jonathan Livingston Seagull tells the story of a bird like no other. His one passion is to be able to fly higher and faster in order to be free. But his unwillingness to fly merely to look for food alarms the rest of the flock.

Banished as an outcast, alone but unafraid, Jonathan continues his journey of self-discovery. The only thing that saddens him is that he cannot share his experience with other birds, until one day, he meets a community of gulls. Jonathan will succeed in breaking the chains that imprison his body and his thoughts, flying as far as he wishes. A paean to freedom, endeavour, following one’s dreams, and self-fulfilment.
